Peter Nash has 30 years experience working in press photography, during this time he worked on the staff of
several newspapers and provided his skills in a freelance capacity, preferring to work in monochrome with his
unique style of documentary photography having being published worldwide and bringing him an abundance of
awards.
His coverage of the war in Bosnia and his images from Sri Lanka brought him 3 Press Photographer of the Year
titles with many awards for his feature photography and documentary projects. He has also won several awards
for his sports photography with his images from the Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, Canada, taking him to
the European Sports Photographer of the Year awards in Barcelona.
Throughout his career, Peter built up an archive of images from around Ireland illustrating the changing
landscape, traditions and ways of life so unique to Ireland. However, on Friday 13th November 1992, a massive
van bomb devastated the centre of Coleraine (photos). Peter had transferred his entire negative archives to the
darkrooms at the Coleraine Times office to facilitate the building of a new darkroom at home. When he finally
gained access to the Times offices, he found his negatives floating among the debris in a cocktail of chemical and
flooding from burst pipes. An over zealous darkroom assistant in his enthusiasm to get back to business disposed
of most of the negatives leaving a huge void in the collection with very few negatives surviving.
